Science based solutions for sustainable tourism

The Institute for Tourism Sustainability connects academic research, expert advisory and applied project work to support responsible, resilient and future oriented tourism development.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
Physicist and Nobel Laureate

The Institute for Tourism Sustainability was founded by Prof. Dr. Dagmar Lund-Durlacher to create a platform for people and organisations who are committed to advancing sustainability in tourism. Rooted in many years of academic research, teaching, consulting and international project work, the Institute connects science-based knowledge with practical solutions for tourism businesses, destinations, institutions and communities.

Our vision is a tourism sector that contributes positively to people, places and the planet. We believe that sustainable tourism must go beyond reducing negative impacts: it should strengthen fairness and inclusion, protect biodiversity and cultural heritage, support climate action, improve resource efficiency and enable long-term value creation for host communities and tourism stakeholders.
